This article is an open discussion about how to get rid of annoying message windows from HP.  Feel free to post here or email us at support@bchtechnologies.com.  We will sum up the discovery and post here.

There are six kinds of Messages:

1) The printer is low on ink.  

It is self-explanatory.  Click "OK" or "Continue".  If you are using a refilled cartridge, this is normal and keep using the printer.

2) 'Used, Refilled or Counterfeit ink cartridge Detected' or 'Counterfeit ink cartridge Advisory,' 'Refilled or Damaged Cartridge Detected.' , 'Missed Rewards.' 

If you have a five cartridge system, you will receive two messages for each; then there are a total of 10 messages.  After you turn off the chip info, the printer should be working without displaying any more messages.  However, there are users reported messages popping up every 5 minutes.  It is very rare, and we want to have an open discussion on this page.

2a) Offers to "continue using this cartridge."

This message is very similar to #3, so read the message carefully.  When the printer detects your cartridge chip is not made by HP or an authentic HP cartridge is refilled, HP will send out this message but let you continue to use the cartridge.  This message can be overridden by clicking "Yes" or "OK."  

2b) "Did you buy this cartridge as new, genuine HP?"

Click "No". If you click Yes, then HP has the right to reject your cartridge. A judge ruled HP can't stop you from using refilled cartridges. So HP's idea is to trick you to click "Yes" on the question, then they can stop you from printing. A 3rd party product is not counterfeit unless it has HP's logo on it. If you say it is new HP, then it must be counterfeit. It's another way to get your money.  So, ready carefully and click "No" for any message has this sentence.

4) Ink Cartridge Depleted.  

If it doesn't offer any choice, then you have to change to a different cartridge or chip.  Make sure you turned off Chip Info or "Anonymous Information" on the printer LCD panel.  If you still can't get around this message, a new chip/cartridge is needed.

5) Incompatible Ink Cartridges

It is either an old version of the cartridge or a wrong model.  You need to change the cartridge.

6)  HP Protected Cartridge Installed

HP can let you "protect" your cartridge, so the cartridge can only be used in your printer.  If you bought a refilled cartridge that is protected, then you won't be able to use it.
